Summary/Objective:     The Sr. Business Intelligence Developer will transform business requirements into meaningful dashboards utilizing best practices development; innovation and integration of technology is essential and must be technically savvy, comfortable evaluating and integrating user requirements and proficient in enterprise level design concepts .  The position will work within a fast paced, small team environment responsible for both production and development services for top national and international brands. This position is part of our CI team which focuses on Analytics.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for technical design, development, coding, testing, debugging and documentation of reports and dashboards to satisfy requirements of one or more user areas
  • Responsible for creation of job schedules
  • Collaborate with other developers in creating optimal, maintainable, and scalable architecture and design and actively promote quality in reporting and other project activities
  • Create high-quality, detailed technical documentation
  • Be expected to be proactive in identifying and escalating to the IT & Project Managers such issues that will have an adverse impact on systems or projects
  • Interact with IT management and other teams at a highly professional and technical level
  • Provide high-quality consultation to business partners and demonstrate keen aptitude in acquiring business domain expertise
  • Research and evaluate alternative solutions and make recommendations
  • Design & build new report metadata, maintain and modify existing report metadata
  • Understand & develop complex framework models
  • Plan and design new reporting environments, on-premises-to-cloud migrations, and upgrades, including glossary definitions, process flows, documentation, and end-user training
  • Ensure completeness and timelines of deliverables
  • Develop/maintain documentation, including report standards, procedures and practices.
  • Make suggestions on how to improve existing processes according industry accepted best practices
  • Gather business requirements, conduct end-user training, and provide technical support
  • Must complete and execute technical metadata design, troubleshoot complex issues and not be afraid to dive in and help team members get through technical challenges


  • Ability to rapidly and accurately diagnose unexpected report anomalies and performance issues.
  • Experience and understanding of best practices in enterprise level environments
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, problem solving & documentation skills are critical

Work Environment:  This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and desk/mobile phones.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:  Full Time/Exempt.  Standard office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Occasional evening and weekend work as business needs require.

Travel:  No travel expected for this role

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, other related technology degree from an accredited university or college, or demonstrated technical knowledge and equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of Cognos development experience
  • 5+ years of enterprise level solutions development experience including business intelligence, data warehousing, and/or data marts
  • 3+ years of Framework Manager development and metadata layer support utilizing a relational model
  • Experience in high performance data architecture and design including Star Schemas, Snowflake Schemas, and Dimensional Modeling
  • Solid understanding of TSQL coding/troubleshooting/debugging
  • Advanced development in creating interactive, action-driven, and highly-visual reports
  • Proven ability to deploy successful and scalable projects from start to finish in an agile environment
  • Understanding of multi-tenant environments and the security necessary to implement these within Cognos

Preferred Education and Experience:

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with Cognos version 10.2.2 or newer
  • Certification in at least one Business Intelligence suite
  • Experience in migrating Cognos environment from on-premise to cloud
  • Experience with Marketing, CRM or Direct Mail databases, operations and concepts

Security Clearance:  SourceLink is a Federal Contractor and this position may require government security clearance for certain projects.
